Volunteering in libraries

The diverse range of services available in libraries provide vital lifelines for our communities and it would be impossible to deliver these services and facilities without the valuable contribution of hundreds of volunteers, who willingly give up their time to support us.

Benefits of volunteering

The benefits of volunteering are equally varied. Whether you just want to meet new people, give something back to your community, or gain the skills and confidence to help you get back into the workplace, volunteering is a great way to do it.

How to become a volunteer

You can enquire at your local library about volunteering. There will then be an informal interview process and all successful volunteers will be asked to supply details of referees. Please note that some roles are subject to a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check.

All necessary training will be provided and every volunteer will receive a Volunteer Handbook to help you get the most from your journey.
