Statutory reviews

Polling districts, places and station review

Daventry District Council, Northampton Borough Council and South Northamptonshire Councils carried out a review of polling districts, places and stations in 2019. The purpose of the review was to try to ensure that electors have reasonable facilities for voting and that they are accessible for everyone with a disability, if practicable.

The councils were required by law to carry out this review.

Community governance review

Daventry District Council, Northampton Borough Council and South Northamptonshire Councils completed a community governance review. This is the process that allows councils to make changes to parishes, such as boundaries and the numbers of parish councillors.

Boundary reviews

Parliamentary boundaries

Following the passing of the Parliamentary Constituencies Act 2020, and the publication of the relevant parliamentary electorate data in January 2021, the Boundary Commission for England has now begun a new review of all parliamentary constituencies in England. This is referred to as the ‘2023 Review’, as they are required to report with their final recommendations by 1 July 2023.

The Boundary Commission for England has now published its initial proposal for new constituency boundaries, increasing the number of constituencies in England from 533 to 543.

You are encouraged to visit the 2023 review of parliamentary constituencies on the Boundary Commission for England's website to view maps showing the proposed new boundaries and provide feedback before the consultation closes on 2 August 2021. You can comment on anything from where the proposed new boundary lines are to the names of the constituencies. There will be a further two rounds of consultation in 2022.

Local government boundaries

The Local Government Boundary Commission was set up to carry out reviews of local authority electoral arrangements. It is also has a role in reviewing local government structure and boundaries, and carrying out parish reviews.

The electoral arrangements for the county were reviewed between 2011 and 2013. The wards for West Northamptonshire are the same as that of the Northamptonshire County Council divisions. For further information see the Local Government Boundary Review for England website
