Following an issue earlier this week with council tax payments via direct debit in the former South Northamptonshire area, we have investigated and discovered this was due to an administrative error on our part.

Anyone for whom this has caused financial or bank issues should call us on 0300 126 7000 selecting options 2, 3, 2 and 1 to reach the dedicated customer service team for the South Northamptonshire area

We are passionate about supporting and improving the lives of our care leavers.

From 1 April 2021 if you are a care leaver paying council tax, we may be able to reduce the amount you will pay.

If you have been in the care of West Northamptonshire Council or North Northamptonshire Council (for instance you lived in a care home or foster care) and are leaving care you may be entitled to a reduction in council tax until you reach the age of 25.

The amount of reduction you are entitled to may to up to 100% depending on your circumstances.

You must be the person liable to make council tax payments either on your own or jointly with others.

Before making an application for additional support you will need to apply for any other reductions to which you are entitled such as

Student discount or exemption
Single person discount
Council tax reduction

Apply for care leaver discount

Your Personal Advisor or another approved person must complete the form at section 3.

Please note: this discount is only for council tax due after 1 April 2021, so you will still need to pay any council tax you owe for an earlier period.
